does the VM has VMware tools installed?
Re: ERROR CLDELSN3, details: [lon-d-squid] error: cannot delete snapshot
Re: ERROR CLDELSN3, details: [lon-d-squid] error: cannot delete snapshot
yes it has open-vm-tools
or is it best to install the one that vcenter provides?
EDIT - ok did a yum -y remove open-vm-tools, rebooted the vm and then installed the one vcenter provided
will let you know
thanks alot for your help so far, its much appreciated!!!
Re: Failed to create VMFS datastore - Cannot change the host configuration.
I managed to login to the FLEX cpanel for vCenter appliance, and found the item mentioned in the documentation:
Had to also mark the storage device (naa.600508b1001c495d5e215d914cd3984f) as Flash before proceeding. That's even though ESXi saw the device as an SSD - strange. I think this may finally be solved I'll let you know how it goes in the next post...
Re: Failed to create VMFS datastore - Cannot change the host configuration.
It would appear that vCenter also can't modify the SSD for some reason. Everytime I go to touch it at all, I get consistent "Failed to retrieve data from the server" errors. Perhaps the drive isn't compatible? I'll have to look into it, since I'm not sure if VMware has this device on any support matrix...
vSAN shutdown/restart procedure
I have read through the VMware documentation on the vSAN shutdown/restart procedure and have a question. After starting vCenter, it says to run the command below. It isn't clear if they mean start vCenter and then immediately move on to running the command, or to wait for vCenter and all its services to start BEFORE running the command. Does it matter either way or could it cause any issues?
Restart the vCenter Server VM.
Re-enable cluster member updates from vCenter Server with the following command.
esxcfg-advcfg -s 0 /VSAN/IgnoreClusterMemberListUpdates
Re: vSAN shutdown/restart procedure
Hello b1izzard
Can you link specifically what documentation you are referring to with that command?
The reason I ask is that command is normally more related to moving a vSAN cluster between vCenters or when switching from Multicast to Unicast mode and not shutting down a cluster (under normal circumstances anyway). What kind of shutdown are we talking about here? E.g. are you shutting it all down to move or do maintenance and is the vC running and stored on this cluster?

Re: Cant open PPT on fusion with Powerpoint for MAC
You can't directly open a file inside a guest with an application on the host (you can do the reverse). You would have to share that folder from the guest to the host using the link Scott shared, and then just open it directly from the host application (not inside the guest).
Re: Cant open PPT on fusion with Powerpoint for MAC
Hello, are you sure about this? I am a parallels switcher and that was a standard feature. Let me try the Scott idea.
Re: Cant open PPT on fusion with Powerpoint for MAC
I mean it is true I cant see the windows folder on my MAC side but I can see the MAC folders on the Windows side. So you guys are saying by sharing the Windows folder it will become available under the MAC side.
So the only way to do this is via connect to server? Not possible to switch this on in the standard settings of fusion?
Re: cp read error input/output error
Re: vSAN shutdown/restart procedure
So, that command (and the previous one to disable membership updates) are not set from vC but from ESXi and need to be set and unset on all nodes in the cluster.
IMO I think setting that maybe overkill and/or overly cautious as I can only see issues in very early 6.6 that could potentially cause issues from not setting it so.
In any case, I would wait until vC is up and you can connect to it via the UI before unsetting it.

Re: Latest Windows 10 update screws up windows 10 display on workstation 15 pro 15.5.6 build-16341506
Try to disable Accelerated 3d Graphics in your VM settings. I am currently having graphic issues with the newest Windows 10 update.
Re: Accelerate 3d Graphics causing VMWare to hang/freeze. When shutting down Host also getting BSOD VIDEO DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR 15.5.6 build-16341506
I had some time to play with this and so far a new Windows 10 VM doesn't have problems with just base windows. I am not pushing any graphics, etc. But I was working on one of my existing Windows 7 VM and started to have problems there. I disable Accelerated 3D graphics and now that VM is not having any problems. This appears to be a problem with VMWare and the host when running Windows 10 2004. I am currently running the newest graphics drivers from NVidia and Intel and newest updates to Windows 10 as of September 6. Still the same problems.

Re: Migrating Fusion to new Macbook Pro
Hi...thank you so much for your response! I have a couple of further questions -- and I'm not very conversant with Fusion in general, so...
1. I don't know what snapshots are and don't know how to commit or delete them.
2. The version of Windows I'm currently running in Fusion is Windows XP Pro and I still have the install disk so am hoping I can install that on the new MBPro after I update Fusion to 11.5.x. Do you know if that will work?
3. Can you tell me how to exclude the virtual machine folder from Time Machine? And I guess I'd then have to backup the virtual machine to an external HD using Retrospect or something similar?
I'd be very interested in the tool you mentioned about this but don't know how to inquire about it as I'm very new to this forum.
4. If I go with your other suggestion about manually dragging a copy of the virtual machine, where do I find that file to drag/copy?
Sorry to not be very well informed. I originally used Fusion after I switched to Mac, but now only use it for a few programs, most especially including Quicken. I'm assuming I'll have to buy a new copy of Quicken and hope it will run on XP Pro.
Thank you for your help with all of this,
Win
Re: WSO UEM 2005 issues with on-prem?
We attempted to do our upgrade over the weekend and to say that it failed miserably would be an understatement. We were attempting to do a side by side upgrade using new servers in staging mode using the AWSTAGEAPP=true switch. We couldn't get any of the services to start on the new servers after we did the database upgrade (Database upgraded fine, did the upgrade to 2001, patched to the highest 2001, then did the 2005 install and patch)
Did any of you try the side by side upgrade or did you all do in place?
Re: vmware-vdiskmanager - Not merging the files
Thanks much for your response!
I received an .ova file and I need to convert into a single vmdk file.
When I unzip the .ova file, it looks like this.
- ap-test.mf
- ap-test.ovf
- ap-test-disk001.vmdk
- ap-test-disk002.vmdk
- ap-test-disk003.vmdk
I try to merge using vmware-vdiskmanager downloaded from here VMware Knowledge Base .
1023856-vdiskmanager-windows-7.0.1.exe -r "C:\project\ap-test-disk001.vmdk" -t 0 "C:\project\ap-test-final.vmdk"
There is no error. However, it is not merging the *002.vmdk and *003.vmdk files.
I just checked by moving *002.vmdk and *003.vmdk into a different folder and tried the "merge". Both the times (keeping the 002.vmdk and 003.vmdk on same location and on different locations), the output file size is the same.
Hence, I come to the conclusion that 002.vmdk and 003.vmdk files are not getting picked up. Is there a way to force the files to get merged?
Thanks,
Sathis M R
Re: WSO UEM 2005 issues with on-prem?
Was the plan to upgrade to better hardware and/or newer OS?
Assuming you are using a load balancer like F5 or Citrix Netscaler, I would instead set up the existing version on the new servers. Then, decommission the old server(s) and confirm that your devices remain connected just fine with the new servers. Then upgrade your entire environment to the newer version.
Re: WSO UEM 2005 issues with on-prem?
Same hardware and OS.
As it was described to us by VMWare, doing the side by side has less downtime as 95% can be done prior to the outage window, and there are a few issues that are present if you do an in-place upgrade. Specifically the cache on the DS not clearing correctly if you have been doing in-place since 9.x. So that was why we were going to do the side by side.
